Why are ice pops so beautiful against a stark white background?
My understanding of what makes certain images artistic is pretty much limited to the kind of images that one creates with letters of the alphabet, but I know what I like—and the work that James and Monica Pierini did, found in Issue 4 of Under the Gum Tree is stunning. Janna Marlies Maron has a talent for finding photographers who find and tell tremendous stories through their lenses. She did it in Issue 3, with Steve Babuljak’s photos of the Phillipines, and now again in Issue 4 with Mark Lanning’s expose on the rising floodwaters in a North Dakota down. Don’t miss this beautiful summer issue of Under the Gum Tree.
